heritage post
come on man
i have this cleaning mode that's evolved from some other ADHD habits called Abandoned Tote Bag. If you have too much shit on your countertop or desk or whatever, you take the entire fucking pile and either immediately throw it out, put it back in its obvious place, or chuck it into a large tote bag. Place the tote bag out of the way, but in an easy to access place. Let it sit there for a few weeks. If you need items from the tote bag, feel free to go grab them and leave them near where you used them. Eventually you may get the urge to actually take care of the tote bag. If there are items in the tote bag that remain, unused, you can more easily justify putting them in deep storage, giving them away, or throwing them out, since you very clearly didn't touch them. I have done this many times by accident but I think it might be an okay organization system now that I think about it.
Oh. Oh this is good. Oh I’m stealing this. Oh that’s going to be so helpful.
the best part of this is that you can leave the tote bag out as long as you like. but watch out
there is a cardboard box near my desk I haven't touched in over a year

Holy shit!
Was this intentional?
Considering the rest of the film’s heavy anti-colonization messaging, the main antagonist being heavily modeled on & inspired by General Custer, the other main (human) protagonist being a Native man (& the fort is where Spirit meets Little Creek), yes, most likely
YES. It was 100% intentional. I highly recommend reading up on the making of this film. There was an incredible amount of care that went into the development.
They had Lakota consultants for the project, especially regarding the use of the Lakota language in the film (which is used sparsely, but when used is accurate).
It’s par for the course now to consult people belonging to a culture for projects representing it these days (i.e. Moana, Frozen 2, etc.) but it certainly wasn’t when Spirit came out in 2002.
This film is allegorical to its core.

[ID: A tweet by DB Woodside (@ dbwofficial) that reads, “The overwhelming majority of TV shows are not filmed in LA where most live. So, what does that mean? Well, if you’re a series regular on a TV show you get flown to another city (another country, Canada usually) where you’re expected to LIVE for the duration of filming. They give you a “relocation fee” to get you “started.” Usually falls between $4,000 - $8,000. That’s it. For the LIFE OF THAT SERIES. Not every season. ONCE. I repeat: ONCE. So if you’re on a show for 5, 6, 7 seasons you’re expected to pay your rents/mortgages and car leases back IN LA where most live. You are also expected to pay for your rent and rental cars in the city that they decide to move you to for the duration of that series. 4, 5, 6, 7 seasons depending on the success of your show. Most of us pay month to month. Or, we find a lease that we have to break when the job is over. Or, we find another actor friend that will take over that lease. I’ve done this with my homie @ meagantandy. Add airline tickets to fly back and forth to see your partners and children. We pay for that shit too. This happens EVERY SINGLE SEASON on TV shows throughout the USA that film outside of LA. I don’t know many folks that can easily afford a mortgage, an apartment rental, two cars, one a lease, the other a rental car, AND airline tickets to see their families and not eventually feel the pain financially. And THAT is why when most jobs finish actors are racing to find the next job because the clock is always ticking financially.
RESIDUALS MATTER.
This idea that all actors are millionaires is BULLSHIT.
The top 1% of actors are doing very well. The majority of actors are not.
Lastly, it wasn’t always that way. It was changed for “cost cutting” purposes. 😉
But guess who saves MILLIONS by shooting in other cities and countries?
